Extreme heat, extreme cold and endless kilometres of sand, it’s surely no place for a motorhome?
Dakar 2022, this year held once again on the Saudi Arabian peninsular, an unforgiving hostile environment, with brutal racing conditions spread over fourteen days of January and 8,000 kilometres of mainly huge sweeping sand dunes.
Adria has partnered with the KTM Group, the leading off-road motorcycle brand based in Austria, for over a decade, in the Dakar Rally. As the official partner for support accommodation vehicles, Adria motorhomes provide some home-from-home comforts to the leading riders and support team personnel.
Standard off the production line Sonics, Matrix and Coral XL motorhomes have all now conquered this extreme event, known as the world’s toughest rally. Their role is to provide nightly basecamps to the team, then they race ahead to the next rally stage on an assortment of roads and tracks, whilst the motorcycle riders tackle the really rough stuff. All of this year’s Adria vehicles managed the event without mishap.
2022 was another exceptional rally, with the motorcycle category eventually won by Brit Sam Sunderland, a former winner back in 2017. This was the closest rally since 2014, with just 3’27 between Sunderland (Gas Gas) and Pablo Quintanilla (Honda). KTM Factory Team rider, Austrian Matthias Walkner was third.
KTM has long dominated the Dakar, losing its crown in recent years to Honda, so, the win for team Gas Gas was a breakthrough moment for its’ sister brand. Gas Gas is part of the Pierer Mobilty Group, which includes KTM and Husqvarna - all of whom chose Adria motorhomes for their teams for this event.
