An unexpected tour with Adora 613 UT

The kids are now grown up, and we've raised them to be travelers. With our Enterprise S (Adora 613 UT), we feel ready to tackle a challenging adventure. We're off to the United Kingdom! Every year, our caravan's summer holidays are decided unanimously based on everyone's wishes. We chose southern Britain, off the beaten track, on a journey in the footsteps of Tolkien and Harry Potter. It turned out to be a wonderful trip that we'll remember forever, one that will remain part of our family memories even when, sadly, the kids soon set off on their own journeys. There are many doubts: the ferry, driving on the left, the narrow roads to navigate on our challenging train. But with a little effort, the travel plan is ready, and we're off!

We choose a slow pace to enjoy the road, three stops to Calais, Montreux in Switzerland, Reims with its imposing cathedral, and Calais with its long beaches, witnesses of great battles. But finally, here we are, boarding the ferry. The white cliffs of Dover await us! The ferry crossing was much easier than expected, and we've overcome one of our biggest fears. And it was worth it. The spectacle that awaits us is indescribable. The cliffs, those cliffs we've only seen in movies, are there, just a stone's throw away, ready to await us as our first destination across the English Channel.

We decided to divide the trip into three legs, each with a campsite to use as a base from which to explore the surrounding area by car. As soon as we disembarked from the ship, we found ourselves catapulted into another world of small red brick cottages that seemed to come straight out of a Harry Potter or Sherlock Holmes movie.

First stop was Romney Meadows Caravan and Camping Park. Along the way, we stopped at Bodiam Castle, which we visited with the entire train in tow! It was an experience we'll remember, given the narrowness of English roads...but it was definitely worth it!  Over the next two days, we visit Canterbury, with its majestic cathedral, and the medieval town of Rye. We dine in typical English pubs, enjoying fish and chips and the famous English meat pies. Anyone who says the food in England is terrible is definitely lying.

Second stop: Salisbury, a beautiful town with its brick houses that seem to have come straight out of a Jane Austen novel, and of course, Her Majesty Stonehenge. It's impossible to describe what it feels like to stand at the foot of these ancient rocks, witnesses to countless stories and tales poised between truth and legend.

But the real discovery of our trip is the Cotswalds, a rural area full of charming cottages and cathedrals dating back to the Middle Ages, a time when the area prospered thanks to the wool trade. Here, time seems to have stood still. A character from Agatha Christie's books could appear at any moment. We set out in search of the sets where some Harry Potter scenes were filmed, such as the beautiful Lacock Village, where we enter the Potions classroom and the Hall of Mirrors, and where we find the real Potters' home! Wandering through the Cotswalds, we find ourselves in Stow-on-the-Wald, before the gate that inspired Tolkien for the entrance to Moria in The Lord of the Rings!

We end the day with a traditional English afternoon tea and biscuits. We park our caravan at an authentic English farm, where we're the only guests. Just us and the magnificent English countryside

Last day of this leg, Oxford! We enter Trinity Church, perhaps the most famous English college ever, and climb the steps...of Hogwarts! Yes, the very steps from which McGonagall welcomed new students to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! Strolling through the dining room, still used by students today, is like walking through the Great Hall described by Rowling in her famous books. The entire city is a dive into history

The last stop on our trip is London. Yes, you can do London by caravan. The campsites aren't as comfortable as those in the English countryside, but they're a convenient starting point for exploring the city. We can't end our trip without visiting the Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studios. A dream come true!

For the journey home, we chose to stop in Dunkirk with its vast white beaches, in the beautiful town of Dinant in Belgium at a wonderful campsite surrounded by greenery, and finally in Colmar, perhaps the most famous city in Alsace.

We returned home with our hearts filled with the emotions of a fantastic trip to places we've always dreamed of seeing. With our caravan, we felt at home wherever we went. Sharing that intimate space, ours alone, made us feel even more like family. The wonderful places we visited will remain a part of us forever.
