Dakar 2020. 75% Sand,100% Quality.

This year’s Dakar Rally, in Saudi Arabia is proving to be a ferocious challenge for all.  Not least because 75% of this year’s Dakar is on sand. Switching the world’s most extreme vehicle endurance race from South America to the Saudi Arabia, is proving to be a ferocious challenge for all participants.

Dakar 2020 is the 42nd edition of the Dakar, the world’s most extreme endurance rally with the world’s top rally cars, trucks and motorcycles fighting it out in the desert.

The rally started in Jeddah on 5th January 2020 and concludes 12 stages later in Qiddiyah, near the capital Riyadh. 12 stages covering 7,500 kilometers in the Kingdom of Sand, with 5,000 kilometers as designated special stages.

Adria is once again supporting the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team, in search of their 18th the consecutive Dakar title.

Stage 8 was cancelled after the tragic death of Portuguese rider Paulo Gonçalves.

After 7 stages, the motorcycle category is a straightforward shoot out between KTM and the Monster Energy Honda Team, with barely four minutes separating the three riders. KTM lead rider, Austrian Matthias Walkner is currently sitting just behind the two leading Honda riders – Joan Barreda Bort and Luciano Benavides.

Walkner commented "Four and a half hours for 550 kilometres. I think it was the fastest stage of my life. The average speed, I think, was about 130 km/h. You have to concentrate and the sand makes things less visible.

Dakar 2020 is the debut appearance in the Adria motorhome fleet for the Coral XL. It and the Matrix and Sonic motorhomes are providing rider and team accommodation through the stages and will cover almost the same distances, each day driving on rough tracks and roads, ahead of the riders and setting up for the next night.

The Coral XL Plus 600 DP is a welcome addition for the KTM team, because it is provides so much space and accommodation. Also competing against the elements for Adria are a Matrix Supreme 670 SC, a Matrix Axess 670 DK and a Sonic Plus 700SL.

These regular, straight off the production line, Adria vehicles, once again are providing 100% reliable support the KTM team, as they race to the finish.
